SIM attendance to the Ninth Meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Science and Technology (COMCYT)

The Department of Economic Development of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development organized the Ninth Meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Science and Technology (COMCYT), to at the OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C. from December 10th to 12th , 2019.
The purpose of this regular meeting was to:

i) Assess progress and implementation of Ministerial mandates of the Declaration of Medellin (2017), the Action Plan of Guatemala (2014-2020) and Work Plan of the COMCYT (2018-2020); Analyze regional and world trends on science and technology;
ii) Agree on the topic(s) for the next Ministerial meeting to be held in Jamaica in 2020 and give the Secretariat guidelines for the drafting of the Preliminary Annotated Agenda; and,
iii) Receive information on the preparations of the Sixth Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of Science and Technology (REMCYT) of the OAS.

A session on Quality Infrastructure was included in the agenda. The topics addressed were:

“The role of the National Quality Infrastructure in the new industrial policy of Mexico”, Salvador Echeverría, General Director of Physical Metrology, CENAM, Mexico

“Global Index of Quality Infrastructure, Data Project and Regional Collaboration”, Ulrich Harmes-Liedtke, International Consultant, Mesopartner

“Opportunities for cooperation and articulation with COMCYT, Quality Infrastructure Council for the Americas (QICA)”, Ileana Martinez, representing IAAC and QICA.

“Sistema Interamericano de Metrología-SIM”, Claire Saundry, SIM president.

It was the interest of all participants of this session that Quality Infrastructure will be included in the agenda of the Ministerial scheduled for Jamaica later this year.
